What plumbing jobs do you do?
We handle the everyday plumbing in a home, rental or small business: the leaks, drips, worn-out fittings and new connections that need a tidy, reliable fix rather than a big project.
Because Norman is also an electrician and handyman, you can add other small jobs to the same visit, such as an extractor fan, a new light or a sticking door. It all goes on one request and one fixed price.
- Leaks
- Under sinks, behind toilets, on pipework and appliance hoses.
- Taps, sinks and basins
- Replacements, dripping taps and loose or leaking basins.
- Toilets and cisterns
- Running cisterns, weak flushes, new toilets and seats.
- Bidet sprays
- Handheld sprays fitted with the right backflow protection.
- Appliance plumbing
- Washing machine and dishwasher water and waste connections.
Do you work on gas boilers or central heating?
No. We don't do any gas work, and that includes boilers, gas fires, gas cookers and central heating boiler repairs or servicing. By law, work on gas appliances must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
If your problem is the boiler itself, a pressure fault or no hot water from a combi, please call a Gas Safe engineer. If a job turns out to involve the boiler, we will tell you straight away rather than guess.
How do you price a plumbing job?
Every job gets one fixed price, agreed before any work starts. Most plumbing jobs can be priced from a few clear photos, so you don't usually need to wait in for a quote visit.
Photograph the problem, the pipework around it and any isolation valve you can see. If you have already bought a tap, toilet or spray kit, include a photo of the box or a product link. We reply within 24 hours.
If we open up a cupboard or boxing and find something you couldn't see, such as a corroded pipe or a rotten floorboard, we stop, show you and price it separately. Nothing extra is done without your approval.
What should I do if water is leaking right now?
Turn off the water first, then deal with the mess. Most leaks can be stopped at a small isolation valve on the pipe to the tap, toilet or appliance. If there isn't one, or it won't turn, use the main stop tap.
The stop tap is usually under the kitchen sink, but in older Leicester terraces it can be in a cellar, under the stairs or near the front door. It is worth finding yours before you need it.
- Isolate the water
- Use the small valve, or the main stop tap if needed.
- Keep electrics safe
- Don't touch sockets or switches that are wet.
- Catch and mop up
- A bowl and towels limit damage to floors and ceilings.
- Take photos
- Send them to us for a fixed price to repair it.
Does hard water affect taps and toilets in Leicester?
Yes, it usually does. Leicester's water, supplied by Severn Trent, is hard, so limescale builds up in tap cartridges, cistern fill valves, shower heads and appliance inlets over time.
That build-up is a common cause of dripping taps, cisterns that keep running and toilets that fill slowly. Often a worn part can be replaced without changing the whole fitting, which we will tell you when we price the job. All our work follows the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999.
