What heating and ventilation work do you do?
We cover the electrical side of keeping a room comfortable: cooling it, heating it and clearing out damp air. That means air conditioning, electric heating, smart controls and extractor fans.
Several of these jobs can go on one request and one visit, for example a new extractor fan and a heated towel rail in the same bathroom, or air conditioning and a couple of extra sockets in a garden room.
We don't do gas work. Boilers, gas fires and gas central heating need a Gas Safe registered engineer.
- Air conditioning
- Wall-mounted split units for bedrooms, offices and garden rooms.
- Extractor fans
- Bathrooms, kitchens, utility rooms and toilets.
- Electric radiators and heaters
- Panel heaters, electric radiators and heated towel rails.
- Smart thermostats
- Hive, Nest and similar controls fitted and set up.
Can air conditioning heat a room as well as cool it?
Usually, yes. Most modern split air conditioners work as heat pumps, so the same unit can cool a room in summer and heat it in colder months.
That makes them popular for garden rooms, loft conversions and home offices that the main heating doesn't reach well. A new circuit for the unit is notified to building control as the law requires.
Can you fit a smart thermostat if I have a gas boiler?
Often, yes. Many smart thermostats replace an existing wall thermostat or programmer and connect to the boiler's existing control wiring, without touching the gas side of the boiler.
Whether that is straightforward depends on your boiler, your current controls and the thermostat you choose. Send photos of the thermostat, the programmer and the boiler's control panel, and we will tell you if it looks like a simple swap. Any work on the boiler itself, its gas supply or its settings needs a Gas Safe registered engineer, and we will say so if your setup needs one.
How do I stop condensation and mould in a bathroom or kitchen?
The most effective first step is usually a properly sized extractor fan, ducted to outside and used every time the room gets steamy. Wiping windows and opening a window help, but they rarely solve a persistent problem.
Many homes around Leicester, especially older terraces, have no fan or a weak one that vents into the loft. We size fans to the Building Regulations Part F extract rates and wire them to suit the room. For landlords, damp and mould is a housing standards issue, so check current guidance on what is expected.
- Humidity-controlled fans
- Run automatically when the air is damp.
- Overrun timers
- Keep the fan going after the light is switched off.
- Ducting to outside
- Never into the loft, where it causes more damp.
How is a heating or air con job priced?
Every job gets one fixed price, agreed before any work starts. Fans, heaters, towel rails and thermostats can usually be priced from photos. Air conditioning can be priced from photos for simple installs, or after a survey visit if the pipe route or outdoor unit position needs checking. A photo of your fuse box helps us see whether there is room for a new circuit.
If something unexpected turns up, such as old wiring that isn't safe, we stop, show you and price it separately. If the fuse box itself needs replacing, Norman will tell you plainly. Nothing extra is done without your approval.
