Can you connect three-phase machinery in an industrial unit?
Yes. We install three-phase distribution boards, run new circuits and connect machinery such as compressors, saws, lathes, pallet wrappers and larger air conditioning units. Before pricing, we check the existing board and supply can take the extra load.
Photos of the board, the route to the machine and the rating plate on the equipment are usually enough to start. Where a machine is moving within the unit, we can disconnect it, reroute the supply and reconnect it in the new position.
If the incoming supply itself is too small, the upgrade goes through the network operator, which in Leicester is National Grid Electricity Distribution. We can help you work out what to ask for. All work follows the current Wiring Regulations (BS 7671, 18th Edition).
- New machine connections
- Dedicated circuit, local isolator and a tidy cable route.
- Moving equipment
- Disconnect, reroute and reconnect when the layout changes.
- Board upgrades
- Extra ways or a new three-phase board when the old one is full.
Is high-bay LED lighting worth it for a warehouse?
For most units, yes. Warehouses often keep lights on for long shifts, so swapping old metal halide or fluorescent high-bays for LED usually makes a clear difference to the electricity bill. LED fittings also start instantly and last much longer, which means fewer trips up a ladder or platform to change lamps.
We can add motion sensors to aisles and stores that are empty for much of the day, and fit emergency versions where the escape routes need them. How quickly the change pays back depends on your hours and how many fittings you have.
The work can be done out of hours or one bay at a time so picking and loading carry on.
Yard and loading bay lighting can be upgraded on the same job. LED floodlights on a dusk-to-dawn sensor or timer keep the yard lit for drivers and security cameras without anyone having to remember a switch.
Can you build an office or welfare area inside a warehouse?
Yes, and it is a job we have done from start to finish: an office partition built inside a warehouse, with all the wiring, lighting, a toilet and a kitchen sink. Because one person handles the stud walls, electrics and plumbing, you deal with one contact and one fixed price instead of three separate trades.
A welfare area usually needs a toilet, a hand-wash basin with hot water and somewhere to make a drink. Where the toilet goes depends on the existing drainage, so we look at that on the survey visit before agreeing the layout.
Some partition work comes under the Building Regulations, for example where it affects escape routes or needs fire-rated construction. We tell you when building control is needed. Check your lease too, as many industrial landlords want to approve alterations first.
- Partition walls
- Timber or metal stud, insulated, with doors where you need them.
- Electrics
- Sockets, data points, LED panels and heating for the office.
- Plumbing
- Toilet, hand-wash basin, kitchen sink and a water heater.
How often does an industrial unit need an electrical inspection?
More often than an office, in most cases. The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require you to keep electrical systems safe, and a periodic inspection (EICR) is how most businesses show it. Guidance commonly suggests shorter intervals for industrial premises than the five years often used for offices and shops. Your insurer or the inspection report may set a shorter interval still.
Emergency lighting follows BS 5266: a short function test every month and a full-duration test every year, both recorded in a logbook. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person for the premises must make sure it is maintained.
We carry out EICRs, emergency lighting tests and PAT testing, and price any repairs the report calls for as one fixed price.
Can you install supplies for forklift chargers?
Send a photo of the charger's rating plate and where it will sit, and we will check the board can take it.
The charging area itself, including ventilation for lead-acid batteries and keeping it clear of stock, is part of your site's risk assessment. We can advise on the electrical side, but the battery and charger supplier is the best source for their own equipment's requirements.
What happens when a fault stops production?
Send us photos or a short video of the board and what has stopped working, by WhatsApp or the online form. When the diary allows we come out the same day, and many of our customers mention how quickly we arrive.
On site we test the circuits, find the cause and explain it before fixing anything. If the repair turns out bigger than expected, we stop, show you and price it separately, so nothing extra is done without your approval.
We work across the industrial estates around Leicester, including Beaumont Leys, Braunstone Frith, Meridian and Thurmaston.
Many faults can be prevented. Regular checks of boards, isolators, machinery connections and lighting mean a scorched terminal or a failing fitting is found before it trips the supply in the middle of a shift.
