Is Rugby too far for you to come out?
No, but it's one of the further places we go. Rugby is about 17 miles away, usually down the A426 or the M1, and it comes under Rugby Borough Council in Warwickshire.
Travel is included in your fixed price; distance is one of the things that shapes it, along with the job itself. Because of the distance, a long list on one visit is far better value than several short trips. When the diary allows, we come out the same day, but for Rugby that's the exception rather than the rule, so plan ahead where you can.
Clear photos help a lot. If we can see the board, the space and any access issues before we set off, we bring the right parts and finish in one trip.
What can you add to a new-build home on Houlton or Cawston?
Most of the things the builder didn't include. Rugby has grown quickly, with large new neighbourhoods such as Houlton on the eastern side of town and newer estates around Cawston and Brownsover. New homes come with the basics, and people soon want more.
One thing first: if something the builder installed is faulty, check your new-home warranty and the builder's aftercare before calling anyone else, as outside work could complicate a claim. For additions, we can help with:
- A charge point on the drive
- Checked against the supply, and notified to the network operator as required.
- Outside sockets and garden lighting
- Often missing from the original spec.
- TV wall mounting
- With cables hidden where the wall allows.
- Shelves, blinds and storage
- Fixed properly to plasterboard or block walls.
Do you work for businesses on Rugby's industrial and logistics parks?
Yes, for smaller units, offices and trade counters. The business and logistics parks near the M1, M6 and A5 are home to many smaller firms alongside the big distribution sites. We're a small team, so we're best suited to the smaller premises, not large warehouse installations.
For offices and small units, we carry out commercial EICRs, monthly and annual emergency lighting tests to BS 5266, PAT testing, and general electrical and handyman repairs. Under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, employers have a duty to keep electrical systems safe, and regular inspection is how most firms show it.
If you'd rather not keep track of the dates, a planned maintenance plan puts the inspections and tests on a schedule, with each visit priced up front.
Can you update an older house near Rugby town centre?
Yes. The Victorian and Edwardian streets close to the centre and in parts of Hillmorton and Newbold on Avon have their own needs: older boards, fewer sockets than modern life demands, and bathrooms that need better ventilation.
Parts of the town centre, including the area around Rugby School, are in a conservation area, so changes to the outside of a building, such as security lights, cameras or new vents, may need permission. Check with Rugby Borough Council first. Inside work on an unlisted home is usually unaffected.
These older houses often have high ceilings, solid walls and original features. Where we can, we run new cables under floors and through the loft rather than cutting into decorative plaster, and we agree the routes with you before anything is lifted.
