What do people in new-build homes around Hinckley usually need?
Mostly the finishing touches the builder didn't include. A lot of new housing has gone up around Hinckley in recent years, particularly towards Burbage, Barwell and Earl Shilton, and the electrics and plumbing in those homes are usually modern. The jobs tend to be about adding things rather than fixing them.
One point first: if your home is still within the builder's warranty, report defects such as faulty fittings or leaks to the developer before anyone else touches them, so you don't affect a claim. Anything that's an addition or an upgrade, we can price straight away.

Does my new-build in Hinckley already have an EV charger?
It might. Building Regulations in England changed in 2022 so that most new homes with their own parking are built with an EV charge point, but homes that were approved or started before the change may not have one. It is worth checking before you buy a charger. If you don't have off-street parking, a home charger usually isn't practical, because the cable shouldn't trail across a public pavement.
If you need one, we fit smart chargers that meet the 2021 smart charge point regulations. We look at your fuse board, your meter and where the car parks, and give you a fixed price from photos. Where the supply needs it, the installation is notified to the network operator, National Grid Electricity Distribution.
New-build fuse boards usually have spare capacity, but not always, so we check before quoting rather than after.
What about older houses near Hinckley town centre?
They are a different job. Hinckley grew as a hosiery and knitwear town, and some of the older terraced streets near the centre date from that period. Houses of that age have usually been rewired or partly rewired at some point, but the quality and age of that work varies.
Common jobs in older homes are tracing a circuit that keeps tripping, testing a fuse board that lacks RCD protection, adding sockets to rooms that have only one or two, and fixing leaks in older pipework.
If we open something up and find more than expected, we stop, show you, and price it separately.
Do you look after business units near the A5 and M69?
Yes. There are business parks and industrial estates around Hinckley, especially near the A5 and the M69, and we work for small businesses as well as homeowners.
Under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, employers have a duty to keep electrical systems safe. Guidance commonly suggests a periodic inspection every five years for offices and shops, and more often for some industrial premises, so check what applies to yours. Emergency lighting should also be tested regularly under BS 5266.
We handle reactive repairs, LED lighting conversions, extra power for new equipment and three-phase connections for machinery. Three-phase and larger jobs are priced after a survey visit. We're open 8am to 8pm every day, so work can often be booked around your busiest hours.
