Do you do electrical work for shops and restaurants on Belgrave Road?
Yes. Belgrave Road, often called the Golden Mile, and the streets around it are full of independent jewellers, clothing shops, restaurants and sweet shops. Most are small businesses where the owner deals with repairs directly, and a closed shop costs money.
So we plan the work around your trade. We're open every day from 8am to 8pm, and jobs that need the power off can often be done before you open or after you close. Common shop and restaurant jobs include:
- Display and window lighting
- LED spotlights and strips that show stock well and cost less to run.
- Extra sockets behind the counter
- For tills, card machines and display fridges.
- Fault finding
- Tripping circuits traced before they cost you a day's trade.
- EICR remedial work
- Items from an inspection report fixed and certified.
Can you fit or fix an extractor fan in a restaurant kitchen?
For smaller fans, yes. We fit and replace wall and window extractor fans in prep rooms, small kitchens, staff toilets and stores, and we can do the electrical side of larger systems: the supply, isolator and fan controls.
A full commercial kitchen canopy, with its hood, ductwork, grease filters and fire safety requirements, is a specialist job. It often needs a ventilation company that designs and services those systems, and we'll say so plainly rather than take on something outside our scope.
What should I check in a Belgrave terrace or a Rushey Mead semi?
It depends which side of the area you're in, because the housing changes as you go north. Belgrave has many Victorian terraces, some with shops below and flats above. Rushey Mead is mostly 1930s and post-war semis, many of them extended over the years.
Both types can have electrics that have been added to bit by bit. A few things worth a look:
- Old fuse boxes in terraces
- Often without the RCD protection a modern board gives.
- Shared or tangled supplies above shops
- Worth checking which circuits belong to which part.
- Extensions on older circuits
- Common in semis where a kitchen or bedroom was added later.
- Damp under stairs or in cellars
- Where older wiring and meters often sit.
How do I add more sockets and circuits for a bigger household?
Start with a photo of your fuse box and a list of what you want to run. Many homes in Leicester have larger households, sometimes with several generations living together, and that usually means more cooking, more laundry, more showers and more chargers than the original wiring expected.
We can add sockets where you actually use them, put heavy appliances on their own circuits, fit an electric shower so the hot water lasts through a busy morning, and replace an old board with one that has room for new circuits. New circuits are notified to building control as the law requires. If your main supply looks too small for the load, we'll tell you and explain the options.
Do you fit bidet sprays and water filters?
Yes, both. A bidet spray is a popular addition in many Leicester homes. We connect it neatly to the toilet's cold supply with an isolating valve, fitted to comply with the Water Fittings Regulations so water can't flow back into the mains.
Leicester's water is hard, which leaves scale on taps, showers and kettles. We fit water filters and softeners as well, and they can go on the same visit as a bidet spray, a new tap or a dripping cistern. Being about 4 miles away, we can usually fit a short list like that into one trip.
