How do you make a trip to Bedworth worthwhile?
By doing as much as we sensibly can in one visit. Bedworth is about 15 miles from us, past Nuneaton on the way towards Coventry, so a single small job on its own is the least efficient way to use the trip, for you and for us.
Travel is included in your fixed price; distance is one of the things that shapes it, along with the job itself. The way to get the most from it is to write down everything that's been bothering you, across trades, and send it in one go:
- Electrical
- A dead socket, a light that flickers, a fan that has stopped working.
- Plumbing
- A dripping tap, a toilet that keeps running, a radiator that won't heat up.
- Around the house
- A sticking door, a loose fence panel, shelves you've been meaning to put up.
Is the wiring in a post-war Bedworth house still safe?
Often it's fine, but it depends on when it was last updated. Bedworth grew a great deal after the war, and many homes built then, including former council houses now in private hands, have had their wiring changed at least once. Some haven't.
Signs worth a closer look include an old fuse box with rewireable fuses, sockets mounted on the skirting board, black rubber-covered cable in the loft, and scorch marks or warmth around a socket or switch. A board with no RCDs, or one RCD covering everything, is also worth a look.
If we find old wiring, we'll explain what we see and what the options are, from a new consumer unit to a partial or full rewire. A rewire is priced after a survey visit.
What usually needs fixing in an older Bedworth terrace?
Mostly the everyday wear of a house that has been lived in for a long time. Bedworth was a mining and market town, and some of its older terraces date from those days. They tend to be compact, with small kitchens and bathrooms and narrow back gardens.
In houses like these, plumbing fixes are common: worn tap washers, cisterns that refill constantly, and radiators that are cold at the top because they need bleeding, or need replacing. Internal doors drop and stick as old frames move, and fence panels along long, narrow gardens take a beating in high winds.
None of these is a big job alone, which is exactly why it pays to group them. We don't do gas work, so boilers and gas appliances need a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Can you fix the items on a Bedworth homebuyer's survey?
Usually, yes, as long as they're within our trades. If you're buying or selling in Bedworth and a survey or EICR has flagged problems, send us the report and photos of each item. We'll tell you which ones we can do, and give you one fixed price for those.
Common items include missing RCD protection, a board that needs replacing, a lack of ventilation in the bathroom, slow leaks under sinks, and gutters or downpipes that need minor repairs where safe ladder access allows. We don't do scaffolding or structural work. Anything outside our trades, we'll say so plainly, so you can find the right person in time.
